The 1965 Beanfield Entities: A Case for Parallel Universes?

Sketch based on witness descriptions

Magical creatures such as gnomes, fairies, and elves have fascinated people for centuries and stories of them still enchant us. Here is a curious entity case that seems to involve aspects of Ufology, folklore and the paranormal. This happened on August 13, 1965 in Kent, Washington.

Three girls between the ages of 13 and 16 were dropped off at a bean field to help harvest the crop by the father of two of the girls.  As the man drove away he noticed two unusual “individuals” walking along the side road of the bean field. As the girls walked along this same road after being dropped off, they also saw these unusual “people.” The first entity was elf or gnome-like in appearance, small, grey and was wearing a gray shirt and pants and a strange little hat. He was dancing and jumping around in front of the other entity as they got closer and closer to the girls. The entity was making a cackling noise that the girls thought sounded like laughter.

The other being, walking behind the first gnome-like creature, was about 5 feet tall with a very unusual head. His face was described as either grey or very tanned; with a bulbous extension on the back of the head with pulsating veins showing through. There were large pores on the cranium area and this portion of the head appeared white.  He wore a one-piece type of suit that was shiny, like satin, with the top being purple with large pockets. Other reports state they both wore tunics.  Its hands were in its hands in the pockets so they did not see what they looked like. The eyes were described as frog-like.  He held a small pipe in his mouth he had a little pipe, which he was blowing, making a shrill sound.

The girls first thought these people were dressed in Halloween costumes, but as they got closer they realized that they had never seen these type of beings before. The oldest girl became frightened, fearing that they were going to grab her, yelled to the other girls to run. got the sensation felt that it was going to grab her. Fear filled her body and she yelled to the other girls to run.  They ran into the field, which was muddy so they stopped on the edge. When they looked back, the beings had disappeared. The father reported this sighting to the UFO Reporting Center run by Bob Gribble who sent an investigator out.  The girls were still shaken by the incident when they were interviewed. What made this case more believable was the fact that the beings were seen independently by the father and not just the three teenagers. He sent us out to interview the girls a day or so later. When they were interviewed they were still shook up. This description of these entities, which is very unusual, has not been reported, as far as I know, in any other case. Taking the case at face value, where they came from and where they went is unknown.  Perhaps they stepped in from a different dimension, or a parallel universe that is unseen from the human perspective. The idea of parallel universes goes back to the idea that space-time is flat, the number of possible particle configurations in multiple universes would be limited to a distinct number of possibilities, albeit an extremely large number. Given today’s research into quantum physics and astronomy, this may be possible. These parallel realms are carefully hidden from humans but at certain times of the year the veil between those worlds is thinner and more accessible, such as during a full moon or at Halloween. Time is quite different in that realm than here and people who have visited the enchanted land for what they think is a very short time find when that in actuality many years has passed.  This story is also reminiscent of stories of the “Trickster,” an archetypical principle in the folklore and mythology of many cultures is of a being which exhibits a great degree of intelligence or possessing secret knowledge and uses it to play tricks or otherwise disobey normal rules and defy conventional behavior. The trickster crosses and often breaks both physical and societal rules and violate the principles of society and the natural order of things, playfully disrupting normal life and then re-establishing it on a new basis. Native Americans held the trickster to as vital to contact with the divine. One of the important distinctions in the Native American’s motif of the trickster is an openness see life's multiplicity and paradoxes.

Is our universe unique? From science fiction to science fact, there is a concept that suggests that there could be other universes besides our own, where all the choices you made in this life played out in alternate realities. The concept is known as a "parallel universe," and is a facet of the astronomical theory of the multiverse.  There actually is quite a bit of evidence out there for a multiverse.  One big question with this theory is: are we the only universe out there? With our current technology, we are limited to observations within this universe because the universe is curved and we are inside the fishbowl, unable to see the outside of it. Another theory is that there are infinite universes. We don't know what the shape of space-time is exactly. One prominent theory is that it is flat and goes on forever.  Another theory for multiple universes comes from "eternal inflation." So if we picture our own universe as a bubble, it is sitting in a network of bubble universes of space. What's interesting about this theory is the other universes could have very different laws of physics than our own, since they are not linked.  Then there are daughter universes. Or perhaps multiple universes can follow the theory of quantum mechanics (how subatomic particles behave), as part of the "daughter universe" theory. If you follow the laws of probability, it suggests that for every outcome that could come from one of your decisions, there would be a range of universes.  Another theory is mathematical universes. Another possible avenue in  exploring the mathematical universe theory, simply put, would say that the very structure of mathematics may change depending in which universe you reside.
